About St. Paul
St. Paul, MO, was originally named White Prairie after Captain James White from Ohio, the first settler of this area. The name changed to St. Paul after Wm. C. Lindsay moved here in 1829 from Kentucky. By 1840, the flour mills of St. Paul had become the center of business, producing barrels of flour by the thousands each year. German and Prussian immigrants established a log cabin as their first church. A German priest named Conrad Tintrup oversaw churches in what was previously known as Allen Prairie and Dog Prairie, both founded in the mid-1800s. Laymen staffed the local parish school, which was later taken over by the Ursuline Sisters in 1872. Decades later, the O’Fallon Sisters took over the school administration in 1935. By 1976, the St. Paul Village was founded by decree of the local court, and later, in 1992, it became a city of Missouri.
